ROME — The Rome Art and Community Center, 308 W. Bloomfield St., will host a 55th Anniversary Gala at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

The event will include cocktails, hearty hors d’oeuvres and music. The cost is $50 per person or $75 per couple. Reservations are needed by calling the art center at 315-336-1040 by Sept. 6, or emailing executivedirector@romeart.org.

RACC is Rome’s only multi-arts facility offering both cultural and community programming at little or no cost to the public. The art center welcomes almost 5,000 visitors annually, including visitors from all over the U.S. RACC is committed to making programming accessible to all, regardless of age, race, economic status or physical ability.

RACC plays an important role in fostering creativity, cultural awareness, and strong community connection through a broad range of programming and services, said Executive Director Jason Tockey.

“RACC offers unique opportunities to experience the arts on a very personal level, whether it be through hands-on instruction, a quiet walk through a serene gallery space, or even as a part of a large community event,” Tockey said. “RACC is proud to have been a part of the Rome community since 1967, and impacting the lives of children, teens, and adults every year since.”

Rome Art and Community Center is also a home-away-from-home for hundreds of artists each year, whether they exhibit their works in the galleries or are featured performers.

“The gala is a celebration of our 55-year commitment to bring arts and culture programming to the greater Rome community,” said Tockey. “I’ve heard from many people in the community that the art center is a place that brings back fond memories of taking art classes, having piano recitals, or attending great events, and we want to celebrate those memories and connections with everyone.”

The gala is also a moment where RACC wants to thank some local businesses that have been supportive of the art center over the years, said Tockey.

“Partners like Olney’s Flowers, Engelbert Jewelers, and Ann Lynch Interiors have been instrumental in our ability to do all that we have done over the years,” the executive director said. “We felt that as we remember the good things that have happened here, we also wanted to provide a place to thank these great organizations who have made it possible for the RACC to thrive over the years.”

The 55th Anniversary Gala is sponsored by Gunther Wealth Management, Eye Care Center of Rome and Shady Lake Holdings.
