Area students participate in show

CLINTON — The following local students performed in the Hamilton College Spring Theatre production of “West Side Story:” 

Nathaniel Adair, of New Hartford, was a member of the orchestra. Adair, a sophomore majoring in computer science and mathematics, is a graduate of New Hartford Senior High School.

Emma Bartle, of Utica, was a member of the orchestra. Bartle, a sophomore majoring in biology and mathematics, is a graduate of Proctor High School.

Jacob Circelli, of New Hartford, was a member of the orchestra. Circelli, a junior majoring in biochemistry/molecular biology, is a graduate of New Hartford Senior High School.

“West Side Story” was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the play was directed by Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer. A live orchestra conducted by Heather Buchman accompanied the performance.

The classic American musical received an update with the Theatre Department’s production. Set in 2018 Bronx, New York, five months after hurricane Maria, the timeless musical tells a story of love, of otherness and street gangs. 

West Side Story was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
