YORKVILLE — Local Rotarians from the Utica, North Utica/Whitestown, New Hartford and Sauquoit clubs gathered on Wednesday, Oct. 26, to mark World Polio Day at Vista Lanes, 550 Oriskany Blvd., to help raise money to fight the crippling disease.

Led by Stephen Turnbull, of the Rotary Club of Utica, and Steve Karboski, of the North Utica-Whitestown Rotary Club, more than 65 bowlers and guests were involved in the fourth annual Pin Down Polio event.

The event helped to raise more than $8,286 for the effort which includes funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which matches $2 for every $1 raised, according to an announcement by the event organizers.

Over the years, Pin Down Polio has raised over $20,000 to help eradicate polio, local Rotary officials added.
