Area bowlers have one last chance to qualify for states


UTICA —Ten area bowlers will be competing at the Section III Shootout at Pin-O-Rama Lanes in Utica today hoping to advance to the state meet.

The four boys headed to the shootout will be two pairs of teammates: Alex Hrdlicka and Tyler Casler from Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and Calvin Hooper and Zachary Flint from Clinton.

On the girls side of the competition, teammates Jessie Fulgieri, MaryKate Weyant and Sara Crisan will represent Rome Free Academy. Also headed to Utica are teammates Julia Merrill and Savannah Burgess from Holland Patent and Clinton’s Danielle Casab.

Bowling will start at 5 p.m. and the entire field will bowl six games. The top two boys and girls will join the four automatic qualifiers who have already secured their spot on the Section III composite team.

The Camden girls team has already qualified for the state meet as the Division II Section III champion.

The state meet is scheduled March 4 at the OnCenter in Syracuse.
