OPENING DAY — Frankfort resident CJ Case casts his line into the West Canada Creek during the traditional “opening day” for trout season on Friday morning. CASTING HIS LINE — Ricky Wannyn, of Camden, casts his line out on the Mohawk River Friday morning on the first day of trout fishing season. Previously, April 1 was considered the traditional “opening day” for trout fishing season in the state. Now, with state Department of Environmental Conservation’s change to the new year-round catch-and-release season, the April 1 date marks the end of catch-and-release and the beginning of the harvest season.
