Online applications from startup business teams are now being accepted for the next cohort of the AFRL (Air Force Research Laboratory) Commercialization Academy, the Griffiss institute announced. The academy is looking for startups in cyber security, big data, information systems, and UAS (unmanned aircraft systems) to apply, with a chance to win $200,000 in prize seed funding from IDEA NY (Innovation Development Entrepreneurial Accelerator), the institute said.
To apply, visit griffissinstitute.org/CommAcadApplication online. Applications are due by June 12.
The Commercialization Academy is a Griffiss Institute entrepreneurial education program sponsored by the AFRL Information Directorate, also known as Rome Lab. The academy pairs high-caliber founders with high-potential AFRL technologies, with goals of developing entrepreneurial leaders and launching new technology ventures, said the institute.
Startup teams will enter a Commercialization Academy cohort, and then compete at a Demo Day for $300,000 in prize seed funding including $200,000 for the overall winner and $100,000 for the runner-up.
After Demo Day, eligible teams will participate in a year-long IDEA NY accelerator program. Additional assistance will be provided through business incubator programs and the Mohawk Valley EDGE economic development organization. Participating teams will be required to reside in the Mohawk Valley region for a 12-month period after Demo Day.
