Annual Verona Holiday Party postponed, donations urged for food pantry

VERONA — The 11th annual Verona Holiday Party has been postponed, organizers have announced.

“The last 10 years, my family and I have hosted this event and there has been a rather large crowd,” said Verona Councilor Fred Scherz Jr. “Given the current social distancing requirements and limitations due to COVID-19, if we held the event this year, it would be very difficult to properly social distance and we would not want to risk someone getting sick.”

The Holiday Party is also a way to collect non-perishable food items for the Verona Food Pantry, something Scherz says he hopes will continue.

“I want to encourage folks to contact the town of Verona Food Pantry and make arrangements to donate directly,” Scherz. “Hopefully, things improve regarding COVID-19 and then we can hold our Holiday Party in the future, as my family and I really look forward to hosting this event each December.”

To donate to the Verona Food Pantry, call 315-813-3477. For more information from Scherz, visit his website at, his Twitter feed at, or his blog at
