HOLLAND PATENT — The ninth annual celebration of the International Day of Peace will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 in the fellowship hall of the Holland Patent Presbyterian Church on the park.
The theme this year is Peace Among Neighbors in memory of the television program, “Mr. Rogers Neighborhood,” and Fred Rogers legacy to children. All are welcome for light refreshments, followed by song, story, prayer, and a talk by Sheriff Rob Maciol on the role of peacekeeping in Oneida County. If weather permits, the crowd will also proceed to the peace pole in the park for music and sharing.
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on Sept. 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace. It is in this spirit that our local celebration will be held.
