Ann O’Brien, 93, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 7, 2019. Born in Oswego on May 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William and Ameila (Baker) Shannon. She was a graduate of Oswego High School. On July 17, 1948 she was united in marriage to Walter J. “ Obie” O’Brien. He passed away on July 7, 2001.
Ann was a member of St. Paul’s Church and was an avid golfer and bowler. She loved to play cards and always looked forward to her Thursday game with the girls.
Ann is survived by her four children, Michael O’Brien and his wife Laurie of Rochester, Patricia O’Brien and her fiance Tony Tucci of Rome, Jean Gulla and her husband James of Rome and Thomas O’Brien and his wife Roberta of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her three siblings, Mary Bryant, Edward Shannon and William Shannon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 1807 Bedford St., Rome. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Church Memorial Fund.
