Ann (Orzechowski) Nicholas, 90, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away December 24, 2018, at Rome Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility. She was born May 22, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Aniela Orzechowski. On June 12, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard W. Nicholas. Richard passed away September 1976.
Ann was employed at the Rome Daily Sentinel, Nolan-Hayes & Adolfi, Rome Electronics, and retired from Farmers Home Administration of Oriskany in June 1990.
She is survived by four children, two sons, Ken and Cindy Nicholas of Rome, Richard and Terri Nicholas of Rome, and two daughters, Nancy Figured of Rome and Karen (Charlie) and Frank Materise of Rochester. Ann is also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Leigh, Rachael, Nick, Raeann; and her great-grandchildren, Angela, Jacob, Aidan, Gunner, Sid, Jemma and Jocelyn.
Ann was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy J. Nicholas on June 24, 2009. She was also predeceased by all her siblings, Caroline, Mary, Amelia (Peachy), William, John and Joseph (Turk).
The family would like to thank the staff at RHCF for their professional, kind and compassionate care of Ann during the four years she lived there.
Ann was an excellent marksman and enjoyed many afternoons target shooting with her family. Donations in Ann’s memory can be made to the National Rifle Association.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. There will be no calling hours. Private interment services will take place in the spring at Lee Valley Cemetery.
