AmeriCU helps members achieve financial success

ROME — AmeriCU Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial institution owned and governed by its members, was founded in 1950 at Rome’s Griffiss Air Force Base. The credit union has since grown to 20 locations that serve more than 154,000 members in a nine-county region in central and northern New York.

Major accomplishments

In an increasingly disconnected world, real connections matter more than ever. According to AmeriCU, the credit union exists to connect their members with where they are to where they want to be. As part of the credit union movement, AmeriCU works to embody the principles of “people helping people” and cooperative ownership. The credit union says it offers better rates, fewer fees, and supports local communities and not-for-profit organizations.

Throughout 2022, the credit union’s focus was to create meaningful connections; the right people to help members succeed, solutions to achieve their goals, or new technology to make banking even easier.

In July, AmeriCU launched Live Chat on its website. This convenient new feature allows members to instantly connect with an AmeriCU representative. The credit union also installed Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) in each of its financial centers. Its ITMs operate similarly to an ATM but can also conduct nearly any transaction that could be made at the teller line, including talking to a real, live teller right from the ITM.

It also launched a new credit card program that allows cardholders to earn greater rewards and take advantage of self-serve card management tools right within the online banking app. It continued to improve service to business members by offering affordable lending solutions. AmeriCU was the first credit union in New York to have a business member approved for the Excelsior Linked Deposit Program.

What’s new for 2023?

AmeriCU believes in keeping its mission and vision at the forefront of all it does. They are continuously evolving toward a modern approach to banking and innovation, while maintaining strong roots and a solid foundation. It will continue to make enhancements that are reflective of where it is headed as a credit union, working diligently to connect its members to some of the latest, best-in-class products and services.
