AmeriCorps to host workshop on first-time home buying


The AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center at the Utica Municipal Housing Authority will offer a free workshop for first-time home buyers from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee Street, Utica, in the second-floor gallery. It is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The seminar, “Thinking about Buying a Home?,” will review the pros and cons of purchasing a home, pre-purchase planning, understanding credit, choosing the right mortgage, finding a real estate agent, benefits of a home inspection, homeownership counseling services, and legal concerns.

Speakers will include HomeOwnership Center housing adviser Elizabeth Preuss, Lou DeMichele of One Realty, Harry Cooper of NBT Bank, and attorney Kevin Leahy.
The Housing Authority AmeriCorps Housing Opportunity Center will be available to provide information about local programs.
