UTICA — People First AmeriCorps members and local residents will distribute winter clothing as well as blessing bags with items such as snacks and personal hygeine items to the homeless, joining hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country in volunteer service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

People First and its community partners will host a winter clothing giveaway with donations courtesy of Trinity United Methodist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Veterans Outreach Center, and the Central New York Labor Agency between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 14 Clinton Place on Monday.

“Today we answer Dr. King’s call to serve and are making a difference in the lives of Central New York residents,” said Dave Zogby, People First AmeriCorps Director. “A resourceful way to meet local needs, volunteer service is a powerful tool that builds strong communities. We are putting the core American principles of citizenship and service into action.”

People can volunteer by calling 315-982.3731 or emailing: celenalamericorps@gmail.com.
