The Utica Municipal Housing Authority plans a recruitment fair at 3 and 6 p.m. Wednesday for AmeriCorps members, who paid volunteers who help people living in poverty, the homeless, disabled, veterans and refugees/immigrants to lead a better life.
The recruitment fair is at the Chancellor Apartments Community Room, 417 Bleecker St., in Utica.
AmeriCorps provides an opportunity for people to learn new skills, gain valuable work experience, help others, prepare for careers in the helping professions and serve the nation.
AmeriCorps members must be able to begin in January 2020 and willing to serve for up to 12 months. Full- and part-time positions are available. Members receive a modest living stipend, an educational award, child care, student loan deferment, and career pathway training in human services.
AmeriCorps members serve at Utica Municipal Housing Authority sites, Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, various locations of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, and other locations in the community.
