Alice (Bryan) Flint

Alice Bryan Flint, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Poughkeepsie and Rome, NY, died Sept. 20, 2022, due to lung cancer. She is survived by her son, Ricky, of Clifton Park, NY; her son, Eddie, his wife Laura and their daughter Ashley, of Lynbrook, NY; and her beloved partner, Derek Brashier, of Sarasota, FL, and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Steve Jones. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Bucky” Flint, in 2013; and her two sisters, Mary O’Neill Elliott and Audrey Edick.

She was born January 18, 1941, in Rome, NY, to Ernest and Myrtle Bryan. She graduated from Rome Free Academy and attended SUNY Buffalo before graduating with a B.A. in English from Utica College of Syracuse University. She also did graduate work at Syracuse and SUNY New Paltz.

She taught English at Rome Free Academy from 1967 - 1972. After moving to the Poughkeepsie area, she taught at Dutchess Day School and then was a long time substitute at Arlington High School.

An avid golfer, she was a former member of Teugega Country Club in Rome, Dutchess Golf & CC in Poughkeepsie and was an active member of The Meadows Golf & CC in Sarasota. She shot 3 hole-in-ones in her lifetime. She was a member of the Junior League, the Poughkeepsie Garden Club and served on several community boards including the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, Vassar Brothers Hospital Auxiliary and the LaGrange Library.

A memorial service will be held in the Regency Room at the Meadows on a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice’s memory to The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, your local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
