Boonville man accused of stealing $25,000 for project in Webb
WEBB — A Boonville man is accused of pocketing $25,000 in down payments for a residential construction project in Herkimer County and never doing the work, according to the Webb Police Department.
Police said David N. Allen, 46, of Hurlbut Street, Boonville, was paid a total of $25,000 over the course of several months, starting in June 2021, for a residential construction project in the Town of Webb. Police said the money was intended to purchase building materials.
Allen never bought the materials or started the work, and instead cashed the checks for himself, police said. Allen was taken into custody on July 7.
Allen is charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, police stated. He was arraigned in court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear in Webb Town Court.
