Academy of Sciences dinner opens year


The Rome Academy of Sciences will mark the start of the coming year with its annual kick-off dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the El Jarocho Mexican Restaurant and Bar, known as the former Buckey’s, at 1303 Floyd Ave.

The event will present the academy’s program for the coming year, including the Rome science fairs, science half of fame induction and recognition of outstanding Rome Free Academy seniors.

The guest speaker is Monk Rowe, a jazz artist, performer and expert from Hamilton College who will speak on the relationship between music and science and how they are interrelated.
