Abbott and Costello kick-off drive-in films at RCT

Rome Community Theater on Upper Turin Road will once again present outdoor drive-in movies in it’s parking lot for the next four weekends.

This week’s movie is for the entire family to enjoy, “Abbott and Costello in Jack and the Beanstalk” on Sept. 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 per carload.

The 1952 family film “Jack and the Beanstalk” is a take on the classic fairy tale by the same name featuring Bud Abbott as Mr. Dinkel and Lou Costello as Jack Strong. Unemployed, Mr. Dinkel and Jack take up a babysitting job for the young David Stollery. When David insists on reading his own bedtime story, Jack falls asleep and dreams of himself as Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack is told by his mother to sell their cow and ends up selling for magical beans. After being scolded by his mother for being so foolish, Jack proceeds to bury the beans which sprout into a beanstalk to the heaves. Accompanied by his butcher, the real-life Mr. Dinkel, the two embark to the land in the clouds.
