By all accounts, this year’s Boilermaker was one to remember.
The sunny, dry weather — after a brutally hot and humid week — seem to energize those who watched the 41st Boilermaker as well as the 15,000 who participated.
The Boilermaker 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is the premier event of Boilermaker Weekend. Organizers note this world-renowned race is often referred to as the country’s best 15K. The Boilermaker 15K is recognized for its entertaining yet challenging course and racing’s best post-race party, hosted by the F.X. Matt Brewing Co., featuring Saranac beer and a live concert.
Gabriel Geay of Tanzania knew what he wanted to do, and he did it.
So did Mary Wacera, of Kenya, and she did it, too.
Geay, 21, won the men’s open title.
Defending champion Wacera, 30, won the women’s open championship for the fourth time.
More than just a race the Boilermaker offers the community a chance to unite and cheer for a good cause. It’s a great crowd-pleaser and it was wonderful to see that this year’s version was a grand success.
