The 36 research teams from around the world who have been selected to participate in a $1 million virtual International Quantum U Tech Accelerator event Sept. 1-3 have been announced by Innovare Advancement Center, a new innovation campus at Griffiss park.

The 36 teams will pitch potentially game-changing concepts related to quantum timing, sensing, information processing/computing, and communications/networking, said Innovare.

A panel of judges will select 18 teams to win a portion of the more than $1 million in basic research funding, the announcement added.

Innovare involves a partnership between the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate, also known as Rome Lab; the state; Oneida County; City of Rome; the Griffiss Institute; NYSETC; and SUNY. The research funding for which the teams will compete is provided through Rome Lab; the Air Force Office of Scientific Research; and the Office of Naval Research, said Innovare.

Among the selected researchers and institutions who will be pitching their concepts are Spryos Gallis, an assistant professor of nanoengineering at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Albany campus. Others include several universities from across the U.S., along with such sites as the Australian National University, University of Seoul, Israel Institute of Technology, and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology plus more.

The teams plan to pitch ideas ranging from quantum sensors for GPS-denied navigation and a chip-scale integrated quantum platform, to ion traps and innovative lasers, Innovare added.

Members of the public are also invited to take part and learn more about how advanced research, especially related to quantum, can lead to technological progress. The event will also feature “Coffee and Concepts” fast-pitch sessions for members of industry, government, and academia, and remarks by world leaders in quantum information science.
