3 dead in head-on crash in Herkimer County
HERKIMER — Three people were killed when two vehicles collided on Route 5 in Herkimer County late Sunday night, according to the New York State Police.
Investigators said Sean C. Bracken was eastbound on Route 5 at about 10:30 p.m. when his Jeep Cherokee collided head-on with a westbound Chevy Trailblazer, driven by Ryan A. Harrington. Both drivers were killed in the crash, along with Bracken’s passenger, Faith Ann McFarland, troopers said.
The ages and home towns of the victims were not released
Troopers said the force of the collision was so severe that it took nearly an hour for rescue crews to extricate the two drivers. The East Herkimer and Little Falls fire departments responded to the scene and doused a fire that erupted in the Trailblazer.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
