224th Air Defense Group promotes four

Four members of the New York Air National Guard’s 224th Air Defense Group (ADG) have been promoted in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

The promotions were announced by Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Shields, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, according to a press release by the 224th Air Defense Group. Included in the 224th ADG are the 224th Air Defense Squadron and the 224th
Support Squadron, located in Rome, with Detachments 1 and 2 that serve in the Washington, D.C. area.

The 224th ADG provides forces to conduct the mission of the Griffiss park-based Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS), which is part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and is responsible for air defense of the eastern U.S., according to the announcement. The promotions include the following individuals:

Mark Coleman, of Rome, to Major.

He is a Senior Director at the 224th Air Defense Squadron.

• Brandon Lake, of Holland Patent, to Staff Sergeant.

He is a Tracking Technician at the 224th Air Defense Squadron.

David Redner, of Rome, to the rank of Airman.

He is a Security Forces apprentice at the 224th Support Squadron.

Benjamin Olsen-Russell, of McDonough, to the rank of Airman 1st Class.

He is a Tracking Technician at the 224th Air Defense Squadron.

Air National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability and development potential, according to the announcement by the 224th ADG.
