A 19-year-old Roman was killed when his motorcycle became pinned underneath a utility van in Utica Wednesday evening, according to law enforcement officials.
Dakotah Wilson was a 2020 graduate of Oriskany High School.
Police said Wilson was southbound on Genesee Street at about 6:10 p.m. when he appeared to lose control of his motorcycle near the intersection with the Parkway. Police said the motorcycle slid through the red light intersection and became trapped underneath a westbound utility van.
Rescue personnel responded and freed Wilson from beneath the van. He was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said they are still investigating the crash to determine what happened to Wilson and the motorcycle.
According to his obituary, Wilson worked at Tri-County Heating and Air Conditioning and STaR Volunteer Ambulance Corps in Remsen. Wilson was working towards his EMT certification.
Wilson is survived by his mother, sister and grandparents. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, according to his obituary.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Barry Funeral Home on West Chestnut Street, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
