Sixteen local indoor track and field athletes won individual events at the Section III championships for Classes AA, A, B-1 and B-2 this week.

16 area track and field athletes shine at class championships

Sixteen local indoor track and field athletes won individual events at the Section III championships for Classes AA, A, B-1 and B-2 this week.

In Class AA, Rome Free Academy’s girls finished third and Thomas R. Proctor High School was 11th. For the boys teams, Proctor was seventh and RFA 11th.

  • Imani Pugh of RFA won the 55-meter hurdles.
  • Hector Perez of Proctor won the 55-meter dash.

In Class A girls competition, Whitesboro was fourth, Central Valley Academy was fifth and New Hartford was seventh. For boys, Whitesboso was fourth and New Hartford was sixth.

Local event winners for girls were:

  • 3,000-meter race — Alexandria French, New Hartford.
  • 55 hurldes — Mackenzie Kubat, Whitesboro.
  • Pole vault — Isabella Whites, CVA.
  • Long jump — Emma Fasolo, Whitesboro.

Local event winners for boys were:

  • 300-meter dash — Jack Towns, Whitesboro.
  • 4x200 relay — Whitesboro’s Daschel Smith, Nicholas Demma, Connor Daes, Towns.
  • Shot put — Anthony Tobiasz, Whitesboro.
  • In B-1 boys competition, Central Valley Academy was third, Camden 10th and Oneida 11th.
  • CVA’s Tanner Warren won the 300- and 600-meter races.
  • In B-1 girls competition, Oneida was tied for seventh and Camden was 10th.
  • Oneida’s Molly Myatt won the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races and teammate Elaina Cook won shot put.
  • In B-2 girls, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill was second, Canastota fifth, Clinton tied for sixth and Adirondack was ninth.

Local event winners were all from VVS:

  • 1,000-meter — Lacey Simmons.
  • 1,500 — Simmons.
  • 4x800 relay — Eva Croft, Natalie Hurd, Simmons, Leah Maguire.
  • Long jump — Maddie Jones.
  • Triple jump — Camryn Shea.
  • In B-2 boys, VVS was third, Clinton fifth and Canastota seventh.

Local event winners were:

  • 1,600-meter race — Jordan Wingert, VVS.
  • 4x800 relay — VVS group of Ben Bellinger, Nathan Geroux, Wingert, Fateh Syed.
  • Long jump — Tristan Muphy, Canastota.
