VERONA — A dozen future nurses graduated Oct. 5 from the Adult Practical Nursing program at Madison Oneida BOCES. The students completed a rigorous 11-month training program that included both classroom and clinical work to prepare them for the NCLEX-PN, the national licensing exam for practical nurses.

Caitlyn Holmes of Durhamville gave the valedictory address and salutatorian Justin Glasso of Rome led his classmates in reciting the Practical Nurse Pledge.

“We are going to do great things,” Holmes said. “All the sleepless nights, stress, tears and anxiety has paid off. We did it. Go do great things.”

Three students were honored with special awards: Nicole Badolato of Rome earned the Outstanding Performance in Geriatric Nursing Award; Danielle Nelson of Yorkville earned the Clinical Excellence Award; and Jamie Rodeo of Canastota earned the Dedication and Determination Award.

Their fellow graduates also included Hannah Barringer of Rome, Summer Dupre of Camden, Quanasia Eiland of Syracuse, Drew Gladle of Taberg, Jesse Richardson of Blossvale, Sylva Shabazz of Utica and Janine Stewart of Rome.

MOBOCES Board President Richard Engelbrecht congratulated the students and help present their certificates and pins.

“The job that these students will be able to do – taking care of people – will make everyone’s life better,” Engelbrecht said.
