ROUNDUP: 11 area tennis players advance to state qualifier

Five local players are among the 16 in the state qualifier for tennis singles in Section III. Oneida, New Hartford and Whitebsoro also each have a pair of competitors in the doubles qualifier. They will take place Tuesday and Thursday at Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse.

The top local seed is New Hartford’s Sophia Burynski, the four seed, who will play Lauren Levatino of Whitesboro.

New Hartford’s Victoria Cioni will play third-seeded Amitees Fazeli of Manlius Pebble Hill. Kiersen Tynatishon of Westmoreland will play Emily Zaitsev of Manlius Pebble Hill. Morgan Keil of Camden will play Mira Nazdan of Baldwinsville, the two seed.

In doubles, Lilly Goodnote and Hana Sabanovic of New Hartford will play the four seeds Lina Limam and Katya Quinn of Fayetteville-Manlius. Oneida’s Myah Rainbow and Saige Meehan will play Claire Wrona and Sydney Colon of Marcellus. Karina Andronovich and Julia Dzeravenets of Whitesboro will play Little Falls pair Dorotea Ballard and Olivia Nolan.

HP field hockey top seed in Class B, Clinton No. 1 in Class C

The Holland Patent field hockey team (12-4) earned the top seed and a bye into the Section III Class B semifinals.

HP will play the winner of the game between four seed Camden (6-6-4) and five seed Homer (1-11-1) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Camden. The winner will play HP at 5 p.m. Sunday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

On the other side of the semifinal bracket is two seed New Hartford (10-5-1) and three seed East Syracuse Minoa (6-9-1), a game to be played at 11 a.m. Sunday at VVS.

The title games for all four classes will be played at VVS on Sunday, Oct. 30, at times to be announced.

Class A

Rome Free Academy earned a bye into the semifinals as the second seed.

RFA (13-3) awaits the winner of three seed Baldwinsville (12-4) and six seed Auburn (6-8). They play Thursday night. RFA will play the winner at 1 p.m. on Sunday at VVS.

Four seed Fayetteville-Manlius (9-7) hosts five seed Liverpool (7-9) Wednesday. The winner plays top seed Cicero-North Syracuse (11-2) at 3 p.m. Sunday at VVS.

Class C

Clinton (15-1) will play the winner of four seed Little Falls (11-4-1) and five seed Cazenovia (6-8). Little Falls hosts that game at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Clinton will play the winner at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at VVS.

The other quarterfinal game is three seed VVS (8-7-1) hosting six seed Mount Markham (6-7-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at VVS. The winner will play two seed Canastota (11-3) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at VVS.

Class D

Top seed Port Byron (13-3) will play four seed Weedsport (7-9) at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at VVS. Second seed Morrisville-Eaton (7-7-2) plays three seed Sauquoit Valley (5-7-3) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at VVS.

Defending state champs New Hartford only gets second seed

The New Hartford girls soccer team went 15-0-1 on the regular season, and the defending Class A state champions have a 53-game unbeaten streak, but the Spartans are the two seed in the Section III playoffs behind 16-0 East Syracuse Minoa.

New Hartford hosts seven seed Watertown (12-4) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. A win would advance the Spartans to play the winner of three seed Jamesville-Dewitt (11-4-1) and six seed Fulton (8-7-1). The semifinal game would be on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Chittenango.

Five seed Whitesboro (11-5) plays at four seed Central Square (11-4-1) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The winner plays the winner of top seed ESM and eight seed Indian River (7-7-2). The semifinal game is also Oct. 25 at Chittenango.

Class AA

RFA (10-6) is the five seed, and will play at four seed Liverpool at 5 p.m. Friday. If the Black Knights win, they’ll play at top seed West Genesee (10-4-2) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Three seed Fayetteville-Manlius (9-6-1) hosts six seed Syracuse United (5-11) Thursday. The winner plays at two seed Cicero-North Syracuse (9-5-2) on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The title game is set for Nov. 1 at Chittenango at a time to be announced.

Class B

Two seed Central Valley Academy (13-3) hosts 15 seed Homer (6-8-2) at 6:30 tonight in one of eight quarterfinals.

Eight seed VVS (9-5) hosts nine seed Mexico (9-4-3) at 6 tonight. Twelve-seed Holland Patent (7-8-1) travels to five seed Canastota (12-3-1) at 6 tonight. Clinton (7-7-1) is the 16 seed and will play at top seed Westhill (13-2-1) at 6:30 tonight.

The semifinals will be played Thursday at the higher seed’s home field.

Class C

Three seed Sauquoit Valley (13-2-1) hosts 14 seed Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (5-10-1) at 6 tonight. Mount Markham is the four seed at 14-2 and will host 13 seed Pulaski (5-7-1) at 6 tonight. Five seed Frankfort-Schuyler (13-3) hosts 12 seed South Lewis (8-7-1) at 5 tonight. Six seed Westmoreland (11-5) hosts 11 seed Dolgeville (7-6-1) at 3 p.m. today. Ten seed Herkimer (8-8) visits seven seed Tully (11-4-1) at 3 p.m. today.

The top seed is Watertown Immaculate Heart Central (15-1).

The semifinals will be played Thursday at the higher seed’s home field.

Class D

Top seed Cincinnatus (16-0) awaits the winner of eight seed DeRuyter (9-6-1) and visiting ninth-seeded Remsen (8-7), who play at 3 p.m. today in the opening round. The quarterfinal matchup is set for 3 p.m. Thursday at Cincinnatus.

Twelve seed West Canada Valley (6-9) will play at five seed Fabius-Pompey (11-4-1) at 6:30 tonight. The winner advances to play four seed Copenhagen (13-2-1) at 5 p.m. on Thursday on the road.

Raiders get Class AA second seed in boys soccer

Proctor (13-2) has the two seed and will host seven seed Nottingham (6-8-2) in a Section III Class AA boys soccer quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. on Friday.

RFA (10-5-1) is the eighth seed and hosts nine seed Fowler (7-7-2) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. A win would mean the Black Knights play top seed Fayetteville-Manlius (12-3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday on the road.

Class A

New Hartford (10-5-1) is the four seed and will host five seed Central Square (8-7-1) in the quarterfinals at 4:15 p.m. Thursday. The semifinals are Oct. 26.

East Syracuse Minoa (14-2) earned the top seed.

Class B

Oneida (13-3) is the top local team as the four seed. The team will host 13 seed VVS (5-10) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round. Six seed Westmoreland/Oriskany (14-2) hosts 11 seed Cazenovia (7-9) at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Central Valley Academy (10-6) is the seven seed and hosts 10 seed Phoenix (8-8) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Fourteen seed Little Falls (8-8) plays at three seed Marcellus (13-2-1) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Fifteen seed Clinton (6-9-1) travel to two seed Westhill for a 6:30 p.m. game Wednesday.

The lone team with a bye into the quarterfinals is top seed South Jefferson (11-1-2).

Class C

Top seed Utica Academy of Science (8-5) will host the winner of the game between eight seed Mount Markham (9-7) and nine seed Beaver River (7-8-1), which will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Utica will host at a time to be announced on Friday at Sal Longo Field.

Six seed Frankfort-Schuyler (8-6-1) hosts 11 seed Syracuse Academy of Science (3-10-2) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Seven seed Stockbridge Valley/Morrisville-Eaton (13-3) hosts 10 seed South Lewis (3-11-1) at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Five seed Sauquoit Valley (8-7-1) will play a quarterfinal game at four seed Waterville (12-4) at 6 p.m. Friday.
