Ten Rome Free Academy seniors have been awarded New York State Scholarships for Academic Excellence, the Rome school district announced.
Scholarship winners must attend a college or university in New York State or the award will be forfeited.
Among the students, Tristan Hunzinger and Ryan Pohorenec each will receive $1,500. Receiving $500 each are Jeremy Amoroso, Marian Draper, Xavier Freeman, Mary Kennedy, Cameron Kilpatrick, Isabella Madeira, Massimo Mattacola, and Thomas Yoxall.
RFA selects scholarship winners by computing a weighted average of the scores on six Regents exams: Comprehensive English, Algebra 2 & Trigonometry, Global Studies, U.S. History/Government, and two sciences.
The scholarship applications are authorized by a high school guidance counselor and mailed to the state Department of Education, the school district said.
Awards are renewable for up to four academic years of undergraduate study, or five years if the program normally requires this.
