Jacob Olearczyk, a Barneveld resident who is a sophomore on the Holland Patent golf team, competes here in the first round of the 2022 New York State Men’s Amateur Championship at Onondaga Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville. Olearczyk won the Drive, Chip and Putt regional to complete the qualifying process for the national event. That will take place April 2 at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, prior to the start of the Masters Tournament.

RFA VOLLEYBALL AWARDS — The Rome Free Academy boys volleyball team award winners are, from left: Santino Campanaro, digger award (247 digs); Collin Gannon, coaches award; Lucas Yanik, assists award (318 assists) and offensive player of the year; Sonepith Keoviengsamay II, aces award (47 aces) and most valuable player; Casey Podkowka, defensive player of the year (57 blocks); and Gavin Civitelli, all around award (96 kills, 51 blocks four aces).

Proctor’s Hector Perez earned first team Tri-Valley League boys indoor track and field honors in the 55-meter dash and 300-meter race as well as part of the 4-by-200 relay team along with Jerome McCarthy, Jahliel Thompson and Nico Tidmore. The Utica City School District Board of Education saluted Perez at their Feb. 28 meeting.

Senior Zack Pazik was the Section III Sportsmanship Award recipient and junior Nick Bennett had the fourth-highest six-game series of the day, with a total pinfall of 1,337 (222.83 average per game).
