AFRL Inspire, a special event presented by the Air Force Research Laboratory featuring TEDx-style talks, will be livestreamed Aug. 23, 2022, at 1 p.m. EDT. Inspire showcases the innovative ideas and passionate people from across the science and technology enterprise. This year’s event, which celebrates the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, features nine speakers from across the lab and one special guest speaker, retired Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski. AFRL Historians Dr. Darren Raspa and Jeff Duford will serve as the hosts for the program. Speakers, from left, include: Dr. Kerianne Hobbs, Dr. Mike Goodson, Dr. Melissa Wilson, Brian “Mitch” Mitchell, Maj. Chief Chief has the saddest eyes that will melt your heart. Chief is 4 1/2 years old and was previously at a high kill shelter in New York City. He was adopted by someone local to Utica, but unfortunately, their landlord would not allow them to keep Chief, and that’s how he ended up at the shelter. He has already been at the shelter for 10 months and he hates being there. Chief is definitely safe there, but he deserves a loving home to call his own. He has been bounced around and he has gone through a lot. His eyes tell a story. Chief is a big boy, but he is a lovable sweetheart. He loves people and the staff adores him. He has been able to play nicely with some dogs at the shelter, but in reading about his past it seems as though he may not want to share a living space with another dog. Chief will need a home with no cats. Let’s find Chief his forever home. He is neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $120. Stop in to meet Chief today. DEFINITELY NOT IN HOT WATER — Kaleb Collins, the seafood captain/manager at Tops Friendly Markets in Manlius, holds a very rare orange lobster. The lobster, whose coloring makes him roughly one in 30 million, will have a new home at the Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo, 5135 Rome-New London Road, later this week. Collins said he received a shipment of lobsters for the July 4 rush and when he opened up the container he thought they had sent him a “cooked” lobster — only to find out the lobster was alive and well. Collins and store officials instantly made the determination to save the lobster, who has been named “Cheeto.” Cheeto will reside in a new tank, and a place of honor, at Fort Rickey.
