DOOR-TO-DOOR — Bret Belden, No. 81, and Josh Coonradt, No. 00, raced for the lead door-to-door for most of the pro-stock feature race on Friday night at Utica-Rome Speedway. Belden ended up winning the pro-stock feature and Coonradt finished 11th after washing up over the berm while making a last ditch effort to get the lead on the final lap.

Friesen went on to finish third, however racing was halted due to rain. The Remember Alex, $6,800-to-win 30-lap feature race will be run this coming Friday night. Johnson finished seventh and Walsh placed ninth.

Rome native Nicolas Ferretti ran in his first Boston Marathon Monday. The Northeastern University junior cruised to a 168th place finish in 2:31:24. He’s seen here on Hereford Street, about half a mile away from the finish line. The Rome Free Academy class of 2020 salutatorian was one of eight Romans to compete in the race.

ROLLING THE BACK STRETCH — Jamie Friesen rolls the back stretch on Wednesday afternoon at Utica-Rome Speedway. The Vernon speedway located on Route 5 will have open practice on Friday with gates opening up at 5 p.m. and cars on the track from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Another practice will be held on Tuesday. The grandstands on both nights will be free. Pit admission is $35 for non-members and $30 for members. “The Home of Heroes” will open up for the season next Friday, April 21, with “Honoring ALEX” $6,800-to-win modified race.
