BOONVILLE — Due to continued state-mandated restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic, members of the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days, Inc. Board of Directors have canceled this year’s 73rd annual event.
The event was scheduled for Aug. 21, 22 and 23 at the Boonville Oneida County Fairgrounds.
“…It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the 2020 NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days is canceled,” stated Executive Coordinator Phyllis W. White, of the NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days, Inc., on the event’s website. “The 73rd event, which was scheduled to be held in Boonville Aug 21-23, will not be held due to the COVID-19 virus. Our event attracts visitors from across the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and our European contestants. The safety of our volunteer family, the citizens of the village of Boonville, our spectators, exhibitors, contestants and food vendors is our number-one concern.”
White said board members are aware that they are unable to secure operating permits for a mass gathering and the temporary campground. “Coupled with the fact that, due to current regulations, there is no way that we are able to safely socially space our thousands of visitors and participants,” she said. “Furthermore, the fact that there is no vaccine for the COVID-19 virus speaks volumes.”
Staff will continue to plan for the 2021 event.
“Our organization extends a huge thank you to all of our dedicated members of our volunteer family, event spectators, contestants, sponsors, exhibitors and vendors that have supported us over the years,” stated White.
Tentative dates for next year’s Woodsmen’s Field Days in 2021 will be Aug. 20-22.
