Westmoreland graduate named 7th Regiment Drum major

WESTMORELAND — Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School Class of 2018 graduate Serenity Morris was recently named the 2019 drum major for 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps out of New London, Conn.

Morris has been a member of the 7th Regiment brass section as a part of the mellophone line. She is currently a freshman at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, majoring in music education.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead this amazing group of people,” Morris told the 7th Regiment. “7th Regiment is such a dedicated family that supports each other no matter what they may encounter. I am so proud every time I put my corps necklace around my neck. It represents the people and the organization that mean more to me than anything else.”

Kevin Lowery, executive director of the drum and bugle corps, said he was excited over the decision to name Morris drum major.

“Serenity truly embodies what we believe a corps member and student leader should be,” Lowery said. “She is a motivated young woman and possesses an infectious amount of energy. I am truly confident that Serenity will do great things with the 2019 corps and beyond.”

Serenity added, “This upcoming season I hope to continue the strength we share in family, but also to push the boundaries. Drum major is the person who walks first…who leads the team into the battle. However, a leader would be nothing without the family that follows and supports them.“

Morris was the 2018 Drums Along the Mohawk John Winter Family Fund Tour Award recipient.
