Speedway opener washed out for third time


VERNON — Utica-Rome Speedway again failed to get its season started on Sunday, May 5 after the forecast shifted and a steady mist moved in. It was the third time in as many tries that the season opener was rained out.

The track will try again next Sunday, with a program featuring the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series in a 100-lap feature. Also competing will be the DIRTcar Sportsman and the DIRTcar Pro Stocks.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. while spectator gates open at 3:30 with the heat races beginning at 6.
