Sitrin Health Care receives Colbert grant

NEW HARTFORD — The Sitrin Health Care Center was recently awarded a $2,500 grant from the Stephen Colbert Americone Dream Fund of Coastal Community Foundation.

The fund was created by celebrity Stephen Colbert, host of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and former host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report.

Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream, a scrumptious Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, has been called “the most patriotic flavor Ben & Jerry’s has ever done,” by co-owner Ben Cohen. In 2007, Ben & Jerry’s began funding a charitable effort based on the popular flavor. For the past 12 years, Colbert’s “favorite night of the year” is when he gets to announce the selected charities on air during his show. Each year, Colbert makes all final decisions on who will be a recipient of the fund based on recommendations from his staff. Sitrin was recommended by Dante Pagano, a staff member of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“We were honored and excited to have been selected for a grant from the Stephen Colbert Americone Dream Fund,” said Rosemary Bonacci, vice president of the Sitrin Foundation. “We first heard of this opportunity from Dante Pagano, and are grateful for his recommendation of Sitrin to Colbert.”
