SAM Party backs Hennessy for Oneida County executive

The SAM Party of New York (Serve America Movement) has endorsed Michael Hennessy of Sherrill for Oneida County executive in the Nov. 5 election, the party announced.

The SAM Party of New York was founded in 2018. Along with Utica Common Council at-large candidate Steve Keblish, these are the party’s first two endorsements in Oneida County.

The SAM Party says it’s an alternative to major parties. It advocates
greater ballot access for minor-party and independent candidates, independent non-partisan commissions to draw elective districts, ranked-choice voting, more transparent campaign finance laws, and easier voter registration.

Hennessy prevailed before an Appellate Division panel Wednesday against a supporter of incumbent Anthony J. Picente Jr. who contested signatures on Hennessy’s Democratic Party designating petition to appear on the party’s ballot line. He was also endorsed by the Libertarian Party.
