The ninth annual Patriot Run/Walk is being pushed back to Sunday, Sept. 6, rather than June 13, according to organizers. Just like the Boilermaker, this race is being delayed due to the pandemic.
The registration timeline has also been pushed back. The cost to sign up is $25 until Aug. 28, then until race day it’s $30.
The event is organized by Vietnam Veterans of America Utica Chapter. It takes place in the Griffiss Business & Technology Park in Rome. This year’s event will be in memory of Army Sgt. Christopher Simpson of Rome, who was killed in action in Iraq on March 17, 2008, at age 23. There will be a five-kilometer run/walk, a 10-kilometer run and a wheelchair race.
Sign up at runsignup.com, or register by mail by sending payment and the signed race waiver to VVA Chapter 944, P.O. Box 4444, Utica, NY 13504. The first 200 people to register receive a free VVA shirt to commemorate the event. Chip timing by Leone Timing will record race times. There will be water and an assortment of refreshments available before, during and after the races. There will also be a complimentary lunch. There will be an award ceremony after the race.
