KIRKLAND — A Madison County woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Route 12, south of Tibbitts Road, on Dec. 22, according to local law enforcers.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Thomas J. Pietruch Jr. said Hannah Rice, 24, of Madison, a passenger in the car involved in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At about 7:45 a.m., Bryan Forte, 30, of Utica, was driving his 2010 Toyota Prius northbound when he came around the corner near Tibbitts and drove into the oncoming lane, the law enforcer reported.

Forte’s car then struck a southbound 2011 Toyota pickup driven by Jacob Schultz, 25, of Utica, he added.

Both Forte and Schultz were transported by COCVAC ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, where Schultz was treated and released. Forte was transferred to SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, Pietruch said.

Rice was the front seat passenger in Forte’s car at the time of the crash.

Route 12 was shut down for several hours as the sheriff’s Forensic Unit and Accident Reconstruction Unit were on the scene investigating the accident, Pietruch said.

The crash remains under investigation and no tickets have been issued.

Kirkland Police, New Hartford Police, state police, Clinton Fire Department, the state Department of Public Works and state Department of Environmental Conservation assisted.
