VERNON — John MacDonald drove his 4,000th career winner at Vernon Downs on Saturday.
MacDonald, from Pompano Beach, Fla., came into Saturday, Aug. 24 needing one victory to reach 4,000. He didn’t waste anytime as he drove Temple Door to victory in the first race of the evening. Temple Door is owned and trained by MacDonald. He did stop there, driving three more winners on the night. His other wins came with Heavens Storm, Brookdale Bruiser and Sapient Hanover.
Bettor’s Edge (Jennifer Lappe) won the featured pace. Bettor’s Edge charged right to the front and led to the first quarter, the halfway point and the three-quarter mark. Dreams Beachboy (Gates Brunet) was second and Golden Gun (Claude Huckabone Jr.) finished third.
Bettor’s Edge is owned by trainer Lappe with Robert Santagata. He is a 10-year-old gelding by Bettor’s Delight. It was his third win this season and his 46th career victory.
