Long-time Franklin Springs man celebrates 96th birthday


FRANKLIN SPRINGS — Rex Nichols Sr., a life-long resident of Franklin Springs, celebrated his 96th birthday Wednesday, May 6 with his son and daughter-in-law, and daughter, along with his dog Toby, at home due to social-distancing restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rex Sr. is a partner with his son, Rex Jr., in Nichols’ truck boxes, of the same address. Rex Jr. lives in Vernon with his wife Janet, and their dog, Tommy. Daughter Sharon Failing, lives next door to her dad in Franklin Springs. Rex’s wife Betty passed away in 1997 at the age of 70.

Rex Sr. received several birthday cards and phone calls from friends wishing him a “Happy 96th birthday with many, many more.”

Rex has a grandson, Russell Nichols, who lives in North Carolina, along with a great-grandson, Cody, also of North Carolina. His granddaughter Renee Flanders lives in Clifton Parks with her husband Mark, and their son, Travis.
