CLINTON —  Kellie E. Kiesel has written and published a fair share of scientific papers that have appeared in psychological journals, but recently, she switched gears and became a first-time children’s book author.

Lovable characters and the guarantee for a life lesson learned, “Summer Spectacular” features all the elements of a classic fairy tale, right down to Lily the Fairy and woodland creatures.

Available for purchase on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble booksellers, Kiesel described “Summer Spectacular” as a “story of hope and spirit.” When moving seasons from spring to summer seems like a daunting task, Fairly Lily and her companion, Tomas the Turtle, are motivated into action when their boss, H.B. Humming Bird, expressed doubt in their ability to get the job done.

Gathering energy from magic fairy dust, garden gnomes and shiny sun prisms, they begin their journey, proving H.B. Humming Bird wrong. In the meantime, the fairy-turtle team present the best Summer Spectacular ever to all their friends.

Kiesel holds a master’s degree in psychology from the State University at Buffalo and has several professional publications under her belt. But her traveling throughout the country, and even the world, was what inspired her first children’s book. She lives in Utica with her husband and dog, Tyson.

The book “is inspired by my many travels across the United States, meeting and eating the different cuisines of our culture, as well as the many people and cultures I have experienced overseas,” Kiesel said.
