Library hosts ‘poolside’ movies, Read Around the Clock

CLINTON — Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St., will host outdoor movies at Jack Boynton Community Pool on Norton Avenue.

Movies will be shown Thursdays, Aug. 15 and 22, and 7:30 p.m.

Patrons may join everyone over at Clinton Pool as audience members watch movies outside and under the stars. Attendees should bring blankets and chairs.

Snacks will be available for purchase to support the pool.

2nd Annual Read Around The Clock

Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. until Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.

Sign up is underway.

Join patrons on the library’s front lawn as participants read aloud for 25 straight hours. This month’s books include “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” and “The Martian Chronicles.”

AARP Smart Driver Course

Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 5-9 p.m. both nights  Registration is underway.

Learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies, and new traffic laws. Participants can save 10 percent on car insurance and remove 4 points from their license. Students must attend both nights. Cost is $25, $20 for AARP members. Contact the library to sign up.

Zumba Chair Workout

Wednesdays, Aug. 14 and 28 at 3 p.m.

Take Zumba fitness down a notch with a workout in a chair. The program is for people with low mobility and includes low impact moves, including music. The class is taught by Helen Dick. 

Pop-Up Podcasts

Thursdays, Aug. 15 and 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Clinton Farmer’s Market

Join patrons for a conversation about their favorite food podcast, “Burnt Toast.” Get other podcast recommendations or get answers to your tech questions from experts.

Cookbook Club

Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

Each month, patrons make a recipe from a selected cookbook and bring it to a potluck dinner. This month’s cookbook is “Jamie’s Italy,” by Jamie Oliver. Stop by the library to browse the cookbook, choose a recipe and sign up.

Monday Movies

Aug. 19 & 26 at 2 p.m.

Watch a recent release on the big screen. Popcorn will be served. For movie titles, check the library’s website.

Tween Book Club

Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.

The book club is just for kids ages 9-12. This month, members are reading, “Inside Out and Back Again,” by Thanhha Lai. Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book and sign up.

Acting & Improv Workshops

For kids ages 9-12: Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 2-4 p.m.

For teens ages 13-plus: Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 6-9 p.m.

Learn the basics of acting and improvisation with Sara C. Walsh, visiting assistant-professor of Theatre at Hamilton College. Space is limited. Contact the library to sign up.

Weekly Story Times

Wigglers for ages 0-2 on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Movers & Shakers for ages 2-5 on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Farmer’s Market Story Time for all ages on Thursdays at 11 a.m. on the Village Green
