Kirkland Library to host Zumba chair class

CLINTON — Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St., will hold a seven-week Zumba Chair Workout class.

The class will be held Wednesdays, July 3, 10, 24 and 31, and Aug. 7, 14 and 28.

It’s designed as a Zumba fitness class taken down a notch for a workout in a chair. The program is for people with low mobility and includes low impact moves to music. The program will be taught by Helen Dick. For more information or to register, contact the library.

Volunteers Needed

Friends Annual Book Sale

July 12, 13 and 14

Volunteers are needed to help at the book sale on the Village Green on July 12, 13 and 14. Stop by the library to sign up for a shift. Service hours are available for high school students.

Celebrate Independence Day

Stop by the library on Wednesday, July 3 at 2 p.m. to decorate your bicycle, tricycle, stroller, or anything with wheels for Clinton’s parade. Or, create a craft to celebrate the Fourth of July. Then join patrons with your bicycle on Thursday, July 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cider Mill on Elm Street as everyone pedals and waves in the parade. All participants will be entered in a drawing to win Water Safari tickets.

The library will be closed for Independence Day.

Baby Sensory Play

Friday, July 5 at 11 a.m.

Babies ages 5-24 months and their caregivers will explore, learn, and play together with sensory toys. 

Dinosaur Dig

Monday, July 8 at 1 p.m.

Children can learn about dinosaurs from field paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka. Then, dig for real dinosaur bones. Pre-registration is required for the dig. Contact the library to sign up.

Friday, July 12

The library will be closed for a memorial service for former director Lois Lemmer.

Monday Movies

July 15, 22 and 29 at 2 p.m.

Watch a recent release on the big screen. Popcorn will be served. For movie titles, check the website.

Third Annual Egg Drop

Tuesday, July 16 at 2 p.m.

Create a container for an egg to keep it from breaking. Patrons will drop it from the tower and see if their egg could survive a moon landing.

Tween Book Club

July 25 at 6 p.m.

The book club is just for kids ages 9-12. This month, the club is reading, “Wishtree,” by Katherine Applegate. Contact the library to sign up and get a copy of the book.

Weekly Story Times

Regular story times run through July 3. There is no story time on Thursday, July 4.

Wigglers for ages 0-2 on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Walkers for ages 2-3 on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
Talkers for ages 3-5 on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.  

Summer story hours start on Tuesday, July 9.
