Kirkland Library is inviting neighbors to ‘explore outdoors’

CLINTON — Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St., has several free passes for patrons to use at local parks and attractions so that they may “explore outdoors.”

With a library card, patrons can borrow a pass to The Wild Center, Beaver Lake Nature Center, Highland Forest, Jamesville Beach Park, Oneida Shores Park, Pratt’s Falls Park, the Rosamund Gifford Zoo in Syracuse and all state parks.

Call or stop by the library to check out the passes.

School Supply Exchange

Have extra school supplies at home? Need a hard-to-find item? Stop by and check out the school supply exchange and take or leave something for free.

Zumba Chair Workout

Wednesdays, Aug. 21 and 28 at 3 p.m.

Take Zumba fitness down a notch with the workout in a chair. The program set to music is for people with low mobility and includes low impact moves. The class is taught by Helen Dick. 

Pop-Up Podcasts

Thursday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. until Noon at the Clinton Farmer’s Market

Join patrons for a conversation about the library’s favorite food podcast, “Burnt Toast.” Get other podcast recommendations or get answers to your tech questions from library experts.

End of Summer Celebration

Thursday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m.

Enjoy ice cream and live animals at the library’s annual ice cream social. See a fun performance from the Out of the Cage Petmobile at 1 p.m. Then, enjoy ice cream on the front lawn.

Patrons should be sure not to forget to turn in their summer reading logs and enter the raffles before the event.

Outdoor Movies at the Clinton Pool

Thursday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Join us at the Clinton Pool on Norton Avenue as we watch movies outside and under the stars. Bring blankets and chairs. Snacks available for purchase to support the pool.

Library Board of Trustees meeting

Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m.

Second Annual Read Around The Clock

Friday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. until Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.

Join patrons on the library’s front lawn as everyone reads aloud for 25 straight hours. This month’s books include picture and chapter books for children, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and The Martian Chronicles. Monday Movies

Aug. 26 and Sept. 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 2 p.m.

Watch a recent release on the big screen. Popcorn will be served. For movie titles, check the library’s website.

AARP Smart Driver Course

Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 5-9 p.m. both nights 

Sign up now

Learn defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies, and new traffic laws. Participants can save 10 percent on car insurance and remove 4 points from their license. Students must attend both nights. Cost is $20 for AARP members; $25 for non-members. Contact the library to sign up.

Wigglers for ages 0-2 on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Movers & Shakers for ages 2-5 on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
