KAC to offer outdoor fitness and wellness classes

CLINTON — Kirkland Art Center, 9 1/2 E. Park Row, is offering outdoor fitness and wellness classes starting in August, including Zumba and yoga.

Coming up on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Eleni Marketos will teach yoga with a five-student minimum per class in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Cost is $110 for KAC members or $119 for non-members.

Dates and times are to be announced.

Marketos teaches a lyengar influence style yoga emphasizing mindful breathing (pranayama) and structural alignment/poses (asana). The classes are good for beginners, as well as intermediate students.

Edna Rodriguez-Plate will present Dragon’s Way Qigong from noon to 1 p.m. on dates to be announced. Cost is $99 for members or $110 for non-members. In the program, students will learn ten Wu Ming Qigong movements. When practiced regularly, they have the ability to “clean-up” the body, and increase overall energy.

Rodriguez-Plate is a certified Dragon’s Way Qigong instructor, and a Life Force Tao of Medical Qigong student. She has been studying and practicing under Grand Master Nan Lu, a Taoist Qigong grand master, and the founding director and president of the Traditional Chinese Medicine World Foundation and the Tao of Healing in New York City.

Zumba and Zumba Toning with Debby Trzepacz, a social distancing Zumba, will be held Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Clinton Central School tennis court from 9:15-10:15 a.m. beginning Aug. 4.

Participants will be required to wear masks until class begins and bring their own weights for the outdoor class. Hand sanitizer will be available.

Zumba Punch Cards are $50 with 10 classes included. Students must be KAC members in order to purchase punch cards. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high energy Latin and international beats. It is a low-impact form of fitness and all levels of experience may participate.

Student responsibilities for participation:

• Do not come if you are feeling ill.

• Sign-in: Name, phone and answers to health questions must be filled in.

• Measure out 6 feet of space and mark with masking tape.

• Wear a mask until 6 feet of spacing has been marked and maintained.

• Stay within your 6 feet designated area at all times during class, unless a mask is worn.

• Try not to touch common surfaces.

Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will be available. All touch points, surfaces and tools will be cleaned before and after use.

Kirkland Art Center will announce dates and times that have not yet been released, as well as other upcoming fitness classes. For more information, call the art center at 315-853-8871.
