Jean Ann Mayette Rashford

Jean Ann Mayette Rashford, of Williston, Vermont, passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2019 following a brief illness. She was 47 years old. Born on June 12, 1972 in Burlington, Vermont, she was the youngest daughter of William and Janet Mayette of South Burlington, Vermont. Married in 2002, she and her husband, John Rashford of Clinton, New York, created the two most precious things in her universe: Emma Ann Rashford, born in 2002; and Ella Marie Rashford, born in 2005. She will be dearly missed by all.

While it is impossible to summarize Jean in so few words, much can be said. She had a spontaneous humor and quick wit that left everyone laughing to the point of tears. Jean’s smile was infectious and everyone she encountered left feeling as if they had found an old friend. Jean was fiercely loyal and an advocate for those around her in need. All who knew her and had gotten the chance to meet her were lucky to have experienced her adventurous and loving soul. Jean loved all kinds of music, especially Elton John, and was deeply intrigued by the quirky and unusual things in everyday life that forever challenged everyone around her to open their minds and experience new things.

Jean had a lifelong fondness of “Winnie The Pooh,” so in her honor, we would like to add her favorite quotes which will now carry a special meaning with her passing:

Piglet: “How do you spell ‘love’?”

Pooh: ”You don’t spell it... you feel it.”

–A.A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”

“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.”

–A.A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”

“‘We’ll be Friends Forever, won’t we, Pooh?’ asked Piglet.

‘Even longer,’ Pooh answered.”

–A.A. Milne, “Winnie-the-Pooh”

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Emma Ann and Ella Marie; one sister, Kim Goodrich of Essex Jct.; two brothers, Tony Mayette of South Burlington and Peter Mayette of Colchester. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Janet.

A celebration of Jean’s life was held on October 18 at Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Services, 472 Meadowland Dr., Suite 7, South Burlington, VT 05403. A burial service was held October 19 at New Mount Calvary Cemetery, 76 Plattsburgh Ave., Burlington, VT 05408.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support Jean’s daughters be made at their GoFundMe campaign at, or to the McClure Miller Respite House, Colchester, in Jean and her mother’s name, or to the donor’s preferred charity in Jean’s name.
