Hamilton College junior guard Kena Gilmour was selected the NESCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The award is the second of Gilmour’s career with the Continentals. He is the second Hamilton player honored this season as senior Michael Grassey was named player of the week on Nov. 26.
Gilmour helped the undefeated and nationally ranked No. 5 Continentals to two wins at the 2018 Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., by averaging 24.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots. He shot 64.3 percent from the field including 5 of 9 from 3-point range and had a 6-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. He poured in 31 points and added eight boards and a career-high seven assists in a 114-101 victory against Ursinus College on Dec. 28. He posted 17 points, five assists and two blocks in a 92-77 triumph against Ithaca College on Dec. 29.
The 6-foot, 4-inch Gilmour leads the NESCAC in scoring with 20.5 points per game. He is eighth with 12 blocks and ninth with a free throw percentage of 82.5 percent (33-40).
Hamilton is 13-0 overall. The Continentals beat Keene State College, 85-80, in a non-conference home game on Jan. 3 and won their first conference contest of 2018-19 on Jan. 6 with a 72-70 home win over Trinity College. Gilmour poured in 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Keene State and scored 15 points and had four rebounds against Trinity College.
The Continentals travel to Wesleyan University on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
