AKA Sorority was founded in 1908 at Howard University, and is the oldest Greek-lettered organizations established by African-American college educated women. Their motto is, “Exemplifying excellence through sustainable service,” and the mission of the organization is to serve others in need locally and worldwide.
Nu Psi Omega chapter was chartered at Utica college in September 1981 and is a part of the
Great Lakes Region and western New York Cluster.
Members of the sorority participate in activities that promote literacy and education in the Utica-Rome public school system. Once a year, volunteers go to local elementary schools to read to the children and instill a love of books. There are numerous opportunities for community service throughout the year. The money raised will be given as scholarships to five worthy students in our area to offset the cost of college tuition when they attend in fall 2019. The Chapter will also recognize outstanding seniors from local high schools, acknowledging their academic achievements.
Tickets for the Jazz Brunch can be purchased for $35 on the day of the event at the door, or tickets can be requested by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or AKANuPsiOmega1908@gmail.com. For more information call 315-266-7548.
