TOWN OF WESTMORELAND — No one was injured when a tractor trailer caught fire on the Thruway Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to fire officials.
Westmoreland Fire Chief Jeff Grube said the engine caught fire and the driver fled without injury shortly after 2 p.m.
The tractor trailer was westbound, and the driver managed to pull to the shoulder of the highway just before the Route 233 overpass.
“It started somewhere in the engine,” Grube explained. The cause remains under investigation, the chief added.
Crews smothered the engine and truck cab with foam and doused the flames in about 10 minutes, the chief stated. No firefighters were injured. Traffic was reduced to one lane.
