UTICA — Utica Comets player Jaime Sifers has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his contributions to the Utica community during the season.
Sifers is an ambassador for the organization with the military programs and facilities in the area. During the summer, Sifers attended weekly office meetings with area Purple Heart recipients, and was involved in the Comets becoming the first hockey team to be designated as a Purple Heart Organization. Sifers is one of 31 finalists for the AHL’s Yanick Dupre Memorial Award.
The award honors the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner will be announced by the AHL at a later date.
