Clinton track teams compete in Utica Challenge Invitational

The sports calendar was dominated by games that were postponed due to weather late last week, but the Clinton indoor track teams competed in the Utica Challenge Invitational and the boys basketball and girls volleyball team each played once.

At the third annual Utica Challenge Invitational at Utica College Friday, Jan. 25 the girls indoor track team was ninth out of 32 teams and the boys were 18th out of 38.

For the girls, the top finishers in each event were:

3,000, Eva Borton was sixth.

1,600 relay team of Finley Davignon, Wiley Gifford, Abbey Hynes and Emmeline MacPherson was fourth.

1,000, Taylor Harvey was sixth.

55, Gloria Kramer was 20th.

600, Wiley Gifford was 24th.

1,500, Eva Borton was 11th.

800, Taylor Harvey was fourth.

55 hurdles, Roxee Hughes was fourth.

300, Claire Barone was 22nd.

3,200 relay team of Emily Hemstrought, Taylor Harvey, Finley Davignon and Rebecah Bashant was 11th.

800 relay team of Gloria Kramer, Mackenzie Siddon, Katie Dewhurst and Abbey Hynes was 18th.

500, Emmeline MacPherson was third.

Shot put, Jenna Deep was 20th.

Weight throw, Lody Powers was 32nd.

Long jump, Savarrah Sojda was 36th.

Triple jump, Savarrah Sojda was 17th.

High jump, Claire Barone tied for 16th.

Pole vault, Piper Davignon tied for sixth.

For the boys, the top finishers in each event were:

3,200, Joey DeTraglia was 36th.

1,600 relay team of Nate Ostrander, Kass Gifford, Justin Stell and Robert Musante was 12th.

1,000, Sam Butcher was 40th.

55, John Cerio was 28th.

800, Kass Gifford was 11th.

55 hurdles, Justin Stell was 15th.

300, Nigel Moore was 42nd.

800 relay team of Jeandre Garcia, Justin Stell, John Cerio and Nate Ostrander was 16th.

500, Robert Musante was fifth.

Shot put, Brandon Brown was 27th.

Weight throw, Gabe Callahan was 12th.

Long jump, Andrew Wieder was 24th.

Triple jump, Andrew Wieder was 15th.

High jump, Andrew Wieder was second.

Boys hoop takes a loss

The boys basketball team fell to Holland Patent 67-52 at home Friday, Jan. 25.

The Warriors fell behind 20-13 after the first quarter and trailed 35-27 at the half. The Golden Knights extended their lead to 54-37 after three quarters. Junior Tanner Deveans scored 29 of Clinton’s points to lead the way.

Volleyballers blanked

Canastota came to Clinton and beat the girls volleyball team 3-0.

The set scores were 25-13, 25-22 and 25-13. Erin Kirk had two kills, nine assists and three digs for Clinton. Breanna Schremmer had two aces and 11 digs.
